The NEXT-HEI consortium today announced the launch of two Europe-wide open calls inviting startups, innovators, and Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to join a pioneering programme designed to strengthen Europe’s innovation capacity, accelerate commercialisation, and foster inclusive, cross-border collaboration.
Budapest, Hungary – 19 October 2025

NEXT-HEI is an ambitious initiative focused on bridging one of Europe’s most persistent innovation gaps: the limited market deployment of research emerging from universities. By building stronger links between academia and entrepreneurship, the programme aims to develop sustainable models that enhance commercialisation pathways, empower innovators, and position HEIs as key drivers within regional and European innovation ecosystems.
A central mission of NEXT-HEI is to open doors for women, youth, and innovators from moderate and emerging innovator regions, ensuring that Europe’s innovation landscape reflects the full diversity of its talent. The programme actively encourages participation from underrepresented groups and supports HEIs committed to embedding gender equality, inclusive governance, and improved opportunities across their institutions. Both open calls follow a transparent evaluation process, and due to the programme’s high demand, applications will be assessed on a first-come, first-served basis.
The NEXT-HEI Startup Support Programme invites early-stage ventures, spin-offs, and HEI-affiliated innovators developing solutions in deep tech, digital transformation, green technologies, space, and AI.
Selected participants will benefit from:
While the programme does not provide financial grants, it offers a unique non-financial acceleration model that delivers high-value services designed to drive growth and strengthen competitiveness within the European market.
The NEXT-HEI Capacity Building Programme supports HEIs in advancing their innovation potential and strengthening their institutional entrepreneurial frameworks.
Participating institutions will gain:
The programme particularly welcomes HEIs prioritising inclusive values, promoting gender equality, and creating improved pathways for underserved groups in innovation and entrepreneurship.
